Frictionless Data: ship a dataset with its meaning

Frictionless Data provides tools and standards for working with data and its metadata. It is useful when an archive needs to share a structured export that someone else can understand without reverse-engineering the original application. A data file becomes more useful when its fields, types and assumptions travel with it. Start with a small dataset and describe each column or property: what it means, which values are allowed, how missing values are represented and what makes a record unique. Include the data's source, version and any relevant usage information. Use validation to detect structural problems before sharing, then ask another person to interpret a sample without additional explanation. A valid package can still contain incorrect facts, inconsistent editorial choices or an unrepresentative sample. Technical validation supports quality but does not replace source review. Keep a human-readable explanation of collection methods and limitations alongside the machine-readable description. Prefer a modest, well-documented export over a large opaque bundle that only its original creator can use.
