Privacy
We keep as little as the archive needs to work, and we do not sell or share it for advertising.
Who is responsible
The Archivist (thearchivist.fun) is responsible for personal data on this site. Contact: [email protected].
Without an account
You can read the archive without signing in. Notes, collections and reading progress then stay in your own browser storage and are not sent to us. The site sets no advertising or analytics cookies and adds no third-party trackers of its own. Our hosting provider may insert its own performance-monitoring script into pages; we do not control it.
With an account
- Account: your username, a scrypt hash of your password and a hash of your recovery code. No email address is required.
- Sessions: a hashed sign-in token that expires after 24 hours. The token itself stays in the browser tab.
- Your workspace: notes, collections and drafts you choose to sync across devices.
- Contributions: the sources, text and images you submit, their review history and notifications about them.
- Images: the original you upload is kept privately for you and moderators. Everyone else sees a copy with location, camera and other metadata removed.
- The Stacks: your game progress, relics and badges.
- Security: a log of account events such as sign-ins, and short-lived, hashed rate-limit counters derived from your IP address (deleted within a day).
What is public
Approved contributions with your username, their public images (without metadata), and your game name, level and achievements in the ranking and feed. Drafts, rejected or withdrawn contributions, notes and workspace data are not public.
Optional services
If the operator enables AI-assisted research, a reduced copy of a submitted image and its source evidence are sent to the configured AI provider to draft a review. If X integration is enabled, the site may import public mentions of its own account and publish posts approved by a moderator. Both are off unless configured.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you delete the account. Sign-in tokens expire after 24 hours. Rate-limit counters are removed within a day. Server backups are kept for 14 days by default, so deleted data disappears from backups within that period.
Your choices
Download a copy of your workspace in Data studio. Delete your account in the Community registry: this removes your password, recovery code, sessions, workspace, notifications, game progress, drafts and unpublished images. Approved contributions stay in the archive under "former contributor"; to remove one of them too, use the removal page. For anything else, write to [email protected].
Children
The site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly keep their data. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will delete it.
