TinEye: find copies and altered versions of an image

TinEye uses image recognition to find matching images in its web index, including some cropped, resized or edited versions. Its documentation distinguishes this from finding different pictures of the same subject. It is useful for tracing the circulation of a particular photograph, illustration or meme template. Search with the best available copy and inspect several matches. Open their original pages, record the visible context and compare the image itself rather than trusting a snippet. If you find a higher-quality version or a less-cropped image, preserve its source as a new research lead. Keep a list of candidate publication dates and how each was established. An indexed match is evidence of a discovered copy, not automatic proof of authorship or first publication. The service cannot show material outside its index, and a page's current date may reflect later editing. Combine reverse search with archived pages, creator records and image metadata. Keep the difference between the earliest result you found and a defensible origin claim explicit.
