Authenticity and accuracy

Authenticity asks whether an object is what it is represented to be in a specified sense. Accuracy asks whether a statement corresponds to the relevant facts. A genuine screenshot can accurately show that a person made an inaccurate claim. A real photograph can be paired with the wrong date or location. State the sense in which you are using authentic. You might mean an unchanged file from a known publisher, a verified account's actual post, or a photograph rather than a synthetic illustration. None automatically settles every factual claim surrounding the object. In a research note, separate file history, source identity, visible content, and contextual assertions. This prevents a successful technical check from being stretched into evidence about an event it never examined. Ask what the verification method is capable of establishing.

Context and provenance

Two different questions about an artifact and the claims made through it.
